Adair man arrested after altercation that resulted in firearm being discharged

On Monday, at 1:02 p.m., the Adair County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call made to Adair County 911 at Marlo Campbell Road, nine miles east of Columbia. 

The caller advised an altercation had taken place and gunshots had been fired.

Upon arrival and investigation, Deputy Tracy McCarol arrested Allan M. Burton, age 21. Witnesses stated that at least 5-7 gunshots were heard during the altercation.   

Deputies located a 10mm handgun hidden behind a tree, along with five fired 10mm shell casings near the roadway of the residence. 

Burton was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail on charges of:

• felony wanton endangerment 1st degree

• felony tampering with physical evidence

The investigation is ongoing by the Adair County Sheriff’s Office. Kentucky State Police assisted with the investigation.
