Adair, Russell Little League all-stars start district tourney play today

District tournament play begins today (Saturday, June 18) for both the Adair County and Russell County softball Little League all-star teams.

Adair has three teams competing on Saturday: 12u, 10u, and 8u.

Russell has two teams competing on Saturday: 10u and 8u.

The games are scheduled to take place on the two fields at the old Russell Springs Elementary School, what is now the SCC-Russell Center.

12u

Adair County

Adair County starts off district tournament play against Marion County at 2 p.m.

If they win, AC will play the winner of Trace Creek (Taylor County) and Washington County on Sunday at 5 p.m. The losing team will play in the loser’s bracket on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Adair County’s roster includes:

There are only four teams in the 12u bracket: Marion, Adair, Trace Creek (Taylor County), and Washington County.

10u

Adair County

Amanda Grant and Ashley Bennett coach the Adair County 10u Little League All-Stars.

Adair County gets a bye in the first round, and its first game will be the winner of Marion County and Trace Creek (Taylor County) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Russell County

Russell County starts off district tournament play against Nelson County at noon.

If they win, RC will move on to play Washington County on Sunday at 3 p.m. The losing team will play in the loser’s bracket on Monday.

“These kids have played together since they were 6 years old,” Coach Davis said. “They’ve played numerous tournaments all over the state, even in Indiana. It’s a solid, core group of girls, and I feel like we should hold our own this year if we play together as a team.”

The teams in the 10u bracket are Russell, Nelson, Washington, Marion, Adair, and Trace Creek (Taylor County).

8u

Adair County

Brandon White and Nicole Booher coach the Adair County 8u Little League All-Stars.

AC’s first game is against South Hardin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The winner will take on the Nelson County-Marion County winner at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and the loser will move down to the loser’s bracket for a first game of at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Russell County starts off district tournament play against Washington County at 10 a.m.

The winner will play Trace Creek at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and the losing team will move down to the loser’s bracket and play at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

“I think we’re a fast team, all really fast runners,” Coach Helm said. “In coach pitch, that’s the name of the game: getting runs. I feel good about that. I think they are all really, really improved on defense. This week, we’ve worked on hitting and have been in the (batting) cage.

“The team is just really, really excited. They’ve all worked hard and are ready to play.”

The teams in the 8u bracket are Trace Creek (Taylor County), Washington, Russell, South Hardin, Adair, Nelson County, and Marion County.
