April proclaimed as Fair Housing Month in Columbia

April has been proclaimed as Fair Housing Month in Columbia as the result of a proclamation issued by Columbia Mayor Pamela Hoots.

The proclamation was issued in conjunction with the date of the passing of The Fair Housing Act in April of 1968.

The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, and disability, and commits recipients of federal funding to affirmatively further fair housing in their communities. In attendance with representatives of the Southern Kentucky Realtors Association, which included Golden Rule Realty and Southern Nest Realty locally; as well as Phyllis Wilcoxson Green of Glasgow, who is president of the Southern Kentucky Realtors Association.
