‘Back-to-School Bash’ being held today in Adair County

The Adair County Health Dept. will host a “Back to School Bash” today (Wednesday, July 13) at the department from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

“We’re doing a back-to-school bash to provide immunizations of all types for kids going back to school,” explains Rhonda Knight, RN and Nursing Supervisor at the department. “Most of our departments are setting up booths to give away items and tell people more about the services that we offer.”

Attendees can visit booths whether or not they get immunized.

“Anyone can go through the booths — they don’t have to get vaccines to do that or register for prizes,” Knight says. “However, we offer everything that a child could need, even recommended, even the COVID vaccines. We have all of those for all ages of children, ages 6 months and up.”

Attendees can enter to win prizes, including boys’ and girls’ bicycles, swimming lessons, T-shirts, gift cards, free haircuts, and tickets to Beech Bend. Goodie bags will be given out to those in attendance who receive an immunization.

Prizes were donated by Walmart of Columbia, Lindsey Wilson College Aquatics Center, Rex’s Cycle Shop, Black Stallion Steakhouse, Rumor’s Hair Salon, House of Styles, and Harris Barber Shop.

Knight encourages parents and students to take advantage of the opportunity.

“We would love to see everyone come out and get their kids updated on their vaccines,” she says. “I know with COVID, a lot of kids are behind right now on their vaccines, so this is a perfect time before COVID gets worse again, to get the kids updated.”

The Adair County Health Dept. is located at 801 Westlake Drive in Columbia.
