A Russell County man was arrested in Columbia Sunday night after a traffic stop led to multiple drug charges.
The Columbia Police Dept. reported in a press release that Ofc. Trevor Foster initiated the stop on Burkesville Street just before 10 p.m. The driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Paul Downs, of Jamestown, denied a request to search, at which point K9 Cally was called in. The police canine alerted to a hit, and the subsequent search yielded suspected methamphetamine and marijuana.
Downs was taken into custody and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, methamphetamine; possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and traffic violations.
Foster was assisted on the scene by Ofc. Justin Cross and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office.
