For the fourth time in their last four tries, the Russell County Lakers are district golf champions.

Russell trekked east to Metcalfe County Thursday, Sept. 1, for the 16th District Tournament at Kentucky Hills Golf Course. The Lakers’ team score of 161 was six shots better than host Metcalfe County, who finished as runner up with a 167. Monroe County shot 169, Cumberland County fired a 179, and Clinton County finished at 183.

Laker senior Bentley Perkerson swung his way to the district’s individual championship in dramatic fashion. Perkerson was tied with Monroe County standout Jacob Ryan after nine holes, with each shooting 38. Perkerson bested Ryan in a one-hole playoff to take the honor.

Noah McMillin (39), Daylon Blevins (40), Kole Rixon (44), and Parker Johnson (47) rounded out Russell’s title-winning scorecard.
