HELP WANTED: Russell County Schools collect for flood victims

The Russell County School District is collecting gift cards, money, and specified items to send to flood victims in the eastern part of the Commonwealth. The community is asked to assist in the effort by donating this week at schools’ open houses.

Businesses, students, school staff, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to participate. The school district’s Family Resource and Youth Service Center directors will coordinate with their eastern Kentucky colleagues to ensure the donations go where they are most needed.

Suggested gift cards are Visa, Mastercard, Dollar General, Lowe’s, and Amazon. There is no minimum required amount; all contributions are appreciated. Cash donations will be used to buy more cards or specifically requested items.

Donations of dehumidifiers, box fans, and mold killing chemicals are also needed. Donors wishing to help with these items are asked to call the Russell County Board of Education at (270) 343-3191 to arrange a drop-off or pick-up.
