Judge, Mayor recognize Adair All-Star teams

This week is Adair County Little League Allstars Week in Columbia and Adair County.

County Judge-Executive Gale Cowan and Mayor Pam Hoots made it official Tuesday evening by jointly signing a proclamation at Joe Johnson Little League Park, flanked by players and coaches from both the 9-10-year-old and 11-12-year-old all-star teams.

Both teams recently captured District 5 championships to qualify for their respective state tournaments. 

The teams will be recognized with a parade/police escort through Columbia Thursday. The groups will leave Joe Johnson Little League Park at approximately 4 p.m, and greet well-wishers along Jamestown Street and around the Public Square in Columbia before dispersing on Burkesville Street. 

State tournament games are set to begin Saturday in LaGrange, Kentucky.

The full proclamation reads as follows:

WHEREAS: Little Leagues in communities throughout the Nation have made it possible for thousands of young boys and girls to take an active part in our national game of baseball; and

WHEREAS: Little League baseball not only promotes the physical well-being of the players, but also instills into them the qualities of fairness, cooperation, and discipline-qualities which contribute to the development of good citizenship; and

WHEREAS: Adair County has two teams the 9/10-year-old and 11/12-year-old little league teams who have already won district are we so proud to say are headed to state to compete; and 

WHEREAS: Adair County would like to recognize the hard work of these two teams;

THEREFORE, I Gale Cowan, Judge Executive of Adair County along with Mayor Pam Hoots in recognition of this event do hereby proclaim July 10, 2022-July 16, 2022 as Adair County Little League Allstars Week, I encourage the community to celebrate this group of young citizens with support and well wishes in their journey to state.
