Laker Golf competes in first two events of season

The Russell County Laker boys’ golf team competed in two events this week.

On Friday, the Lakers traveled to Eagles Nest County Club to play in the Somerset Invitational. The Lakers shot a 346 and finished 9th out of 15 teams.

Senior Bentley Perkerson carded an 82 to lead the Lakers.

The top four scorers, which account for the total team score, were rounded out by: freshman Daylon Blevins with an 87, sophomore Kole Rixon with an 88, and freshman Noah McMillin with an 89.

Sophomore Parker Johnson also added a 97.

On Tuesday, Russell County played at the Central Kentucky Shootout at Old Bridge in the team’s first match of the season. The Lakers shot a team score of 330, which placed them 8th out of 19 teams.

Perkerson was the team leader with a 78 on the day.

McMillin carded an 83, followed by Blevins’ 84 and Rixon’s 85. Johnson shot a 98.

The team’s originally scheduled season-opening match at Metcalfe County on Monday was canceled due to inclement weather.

The Lakers’ next scheduled events are today’s Big Daddy Classic at the Taylor County Country Club, followed by an appearance in the Rocket Invitational on Wednesday, which will be held at the Burnside Island Golf Course. Click here for the full schedule.
