Russell County senior Nathan Lawson has been named the Prep Baseball Report (PBR) Kentucky Player of the Week for April 25-May 1.
Lawson went 8-for-14 at the plate with six doubles, two home runs, and seven RBI. On the mound, he helped the Lakers pick up a crucial 13-0 victory in the 20th district over Cumberland County. He pitched all five innings — as the Lakers were able to 10-run-rule the Panthers — and struck out 14 batters in a no-hitter.
“We knew going into our last district game, with seeding on the line for the tournament, we knew we had to pitch Nathan,” head coach David Rexroat said. “He came out and performed very well.
“His bat’s coming on a lot here lately. He’s done a great job for us, and I can’t say enough about his performance last week. “
During that stretch of games, Russell County went 5-0, defeating Adair County 4-2, Metcalfe County twice, Cumberland County, and Warren East by a score of 10-9.
