Twenty-four of the 26 Lindsey Wilson College varsity athletic teams produced at least a 3.0 team grade point average during the 2021-22 academic year.
The 24 teams are the most in LWC history in a single academic year to achieve the mark.
Lindsey Wilson women’s golf produced the highest GPA in the department, boasting a 3.70 team GPA. Eight of the nine women’s golfers produced at least a 3.0 GPA during the academic year while three amassed a perfect 4.0 GPA during the year.
The team GPA is calculated by dividing the quality points earned by the hours attempted during the academic year by all student-athletes listed on the team’s eligibility certificate.
Volleyball finished second in the team list for a second-straight year, recording a 3.64 GPA in 2021-22. Women’s tennis (3.61), last year’s Team GPA champion women’s swimming (3.57), and women’s outdoor track & field (3.51) round out the top five.
“Our student-athletes traditionally excel in the classroom, but I am so incredibly proud of their performance in this historic year,” Lindsey Wilson athletics director Willis Pooler said. “From the number of teams that achieved at least a 3.0 to the individuals that helped produce those team GPAs, it is evident that our student-athletes take as much pride in their academics as they do within their athletic arenas, and I applaud their efforts.
“Congratulations to Coach Eric Wyrick and our women’s golf program for achieving the highest team GPA in our department,” Pooler added. “And congratulation to our teams and every student-athlete for all of their academic successes in 2021-22.”
Twenty-two Lindsey Wilson teams are eligible for the NAIA Scholar Team award announced early next fall. A pair of teams reached the 3.0 GPA but is not associated with the NAIA.
Lindsey Wilson varsity student-athletes listed on the team’s eligibility certificate finished with a combined 3.233 GPA for the 2021-22 academic year.
