May is officially Foster Care Month in Columbia

Mayor Pamela Hoots recently signed a proclamation making May Foster Care Month in Columbia.

The proclamation recognizes the over 400,000 children in the United States that are in the foster care program; and, the importance of foster care in our community.

The proclamation wants to encourage support for those caregivers; and, to recognize those working in the foster care program.

Diane West has been working with the local foster care families for around nine years; and, serves on the state board for Fostering Futures, Kentucky Foster and Care Association.

West has adopted five and foster nineteen during her tenure with the program; and, Howard is just starting working with foster care.

The proclamation reads as follows:

“Whereas, the month of May is recognized as National Foster Care Month;

Whereas, there are over 400,000 children in foster care in the United States;

Whereas, we want to recognize the importance of foster care in our community;

Whereas, we want to encourage supporting those caregivers;

Whereas, we want to recognize those in our community that are actively working in the foster care program;

Therefore, we proclaim the month of May, 2022, as Foster Care Month in Columbia, Kentucky.
