Junior Lucas McFall is on the brink of making Russell County High School tennis history.

McFall is set to face off against Greenwood’s Dylan Dethridge in the region finals today, and if he wins, he will be the first boys’ singles region champion in program history and RCHS’ first singles region champion (boy or girl) since 1989.

McFall has faced off against Dethridge twice this year, splitting the matches 1-1.

At Russell County, McFall won 7-5, 3-6, 10-5 (tie breaker) and at Greenwood, McFall lost in two sets: 3-6, 3-6.

The match is set for 4:30 at South Warren High School.

Regardless of the outcome, McFall’s next match will be in the state tournament. He’ll be making an appearance at state for the second consecutive season, and he advanced to the second round at the state tournament last season. The first and second rounds will take place on May 31.

Full region results from RCHS tennis players will be included with tomorrow’s wrap-up of McFall’s finals match.
