The Russell County Middle School Lady Lakers basketball team opened the 2022 season on Tuesday.

The eighth grade squad is looking to make some noise this season after winning the conference championship last October.

The sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade girls faced off against Taylor County. There was a big turnout in support of the girls from both squads.

Taylor County came out strong in the sixth and seventh grade games with commanding victories.

The eighth grade contest was a classic overtime barn-burner. Addy Abrell led Russell County scorers with 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the talented Cardinals of Taylor County.

Tuesday Night’s Scores:
6th Grade
Lady Lakers 14 – Taylor County 31

7th Grade
Lady Lakers 7 – Taylor County 50

8th Grade
Lady Lakers 35 – Taylor County 36 (OT)
