Rollin L. “Shorty” Rooks, 87 of Edinburgh, Indiana, passed away April 24, 2022 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born February 14, 1935 in Columbia. He was the son of Welby Lee Rooks and Myrtle (Rooks) Alley. He married Doris J. (Grider) Rooks on July 3, 1958, and she preceded him in death on April 24, 2011.
He is survived by a son, Daniel “Weasel” (Salli) Rooks of Edinburgh, Indiana; daughters, Brenda (David) Maraman of Sarasota, Florida and Stacy Toler of Edinburgh, Indiana; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brothers, Avery Rooks of Columbia, Gene (Polly) Rooks of Edinburgh, Indiana, Holland (Kathy) Rooks of Kentucky, and Alvin Rooks of Kentucky; and sisters, Ida Pearl Bryant of Edinburgh, Indiana, Bonnie (Norman) Shelton of Kentucky, Judy (Ernest) Wilkins of Kentucky, and Dotty Levine of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, Ronnie “Poochie” Toler and Ronald Rooks; daughter, Barbara “Bobbie” Toler; brothers, Charles Curtis “CC” Rooks, Tyler Rooks, and Welby Rooks, Jr.; and sisters, Cecil Burton and Ruth Burton.
Rollin owned Rooks Logging and was a lifelong logger. He was awarded the Indiana Logger of the Year. He also owned Rooks General Store and served as a special deputy for Edinburgh Police Department.
He loved his family and grandkids very much. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports, loved going to auctions, working with his hands, fixing furniture, and growing fruits and vegetables.
A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Randy Denton at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Who-So-Ever-Will Community Church in Edinburgh, Indana. Calling will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. on Saturday until time of service at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
