The Adair County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle injury collision on Monday, June 20.

Deputy Tracy McCarol received a call to respond along with Adair EMS and Columbia Adair Fire to KY55 south approximately 4 miles south of Columbia to a pickup truck versus dump truck head-on collision.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by 28-year-old Zachary Meece, of Jamestown, crossed the center line and struck a 1994 Ford Truck operated by 67-year-old Chester Taylor, of Columbia.

After the initial collision, Meece’s vehicle nearly struck another vehicle operated by 35-year-old Laura Keltner, of Columbia.

Keltner was able to avoid contact with Meece’s vehicle. Meece was entrapped in his vehicle and had to be freed by mechanical means by Adair County Fire Department. Meece was transported to TJ Health Columbia helipad and airlifted to UK hospital.

The collision remains under investigation by Sheriff’s Deputy Tracy Mccarol.
